On September 15, 2015 the City of Chicago will change the process to sell and collect Aiport Departure Tax Stamps at both O'hare and Midway airports.
Beginning on September 15, 2015 tax stamps may only be purchased through a kiosk, or through a mobile application.
All tax stamps, kiosk and mobile, will contain a scannable tax stamp number. A Department of Aviation representative will validate each presented tax stamp with a hand scanner. Once validated the ground transportation provider will then be allowed to board a passenger. As today, a valid tax stamp must be presented to provide ground transportation from the airport, and a tax stamp can only be used once.
During the week of September 14, 2015 through September 18, 2015 from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, the Department of Finance will have an exchange process. During this period there will be staff at each airport to facilitate the exchange of one current unused tax stamp for one new tax stamp.
September 15, 2015 will be the last date that Department of Aviation staff will accept the current tax stamp being replaced.
Beginning September 16, 2015 only new kiosk and mobile tax stamps with the scannable number will be accepted.
No tax stamp exchanges will be provided at either airport after September 18th.
